Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has declared that the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) 2026 will be held on 1st March 2026. After the test planned for 7th February got called off at two centres due to administrative reasons, the board took the decision.
The affected centres include Lakshya International Academy in Bardihha, Patepur Vaishali (Hajipur), and St. John’s Academy in Basmati Nagar. The CBSE has stated that they have postponed the event because it was delayed due to some unavoidable, administrative problems and, in addition, to make sure that the examination process was fair and transparent for the candidates. They also pointed out that only the centres which are affected will be rescheduled while the examination at all other centres will continue as usual.
The Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) is a nationwide qualifying exam that is held twice a year for the aspirants who desire to become teachers for Classes 1 to 8 in the schools that are run by the central government only. Teacher candidates who want to get the job in Kendriya Vidyalayas, Navodaya Vidyalayas, and other central government schools should have a CTET qualifying certificate as per the rules of National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE).
CTET is one of the biggest teacher eligibility exams in India which sees the participation of over 2.5 million candidates yearly. The test comprises two papers, viz., Paper I for teacher candidates of Classes 1 to 5 and Paper II for teacher candidates of Classes 6 to 8. The exam pattern and syllabus remain the same.
CBSE has informed that candidates of rescheduled centres will be required to download their new admit cards and follow the new instructions that will be available on the official CTET website. The Board reaffirmed its determination to preserve the honesty of the examination and to provide fair chances to all aspirants.
School education experts remark that prompt administrative actions play a pivotal role in preserving the transparency and the standards of teaching in the huge Indian school education system.
