Bangalore University is rolling out robust measures to encourage more students to enroll in its affiliated degree colleges. This includes an extensive use of social media marketing, reaching out to students, and upgrading college facilities. Recently, the university issued a communication to the principals of 284 affiliated government, aided, and private colleges, encouraging them not only to showcase their courses, facilities, and extracurricular activities through social media but also organize visits to nearby Pre-University (PU) colleges. This is a part of university's strategy to deal with continued lack of admissions, considering that nearly 10,000 seats remain vacant every year out of some 40,000 seats in arts commerce science, and management streams.

At a special Syndicate meeting, Deputy-Chancellor Jayakara S.M. underlined the role of social media as a tool to connect with digitally savvy students of today. Colleges have been recommended to create Facebook, X, and Instagram accounts and use these platforms along with WhatsApp groups, websites, and sharing links to the university's portal for promoting courses. This step will help students get accurate and timely information about various course availability, allowing them to make choices with proper knowledge instead of looking for other institutions.

Besides digital communication, the university is also focusing more on face to face engagements of students at PU colleges. Principals will be requested to drop by nearby Pre-University colleges, hand over leaflets, and motivate the students to think about degree courses in arts, science and commerce. Prevention of students' moving to other colleges is the main reason for early admissions and it also helps the university to maintain its semester schedules and exam results on time.

The Syndicate meeting was also about the structural changes. Local Inquiry Committees' suggestion will be the first step of three months' implementation to renovate the basic infrastructure, rectify deficiencies, and upgrade the curriculum. Particular attention will be paid to vocational education, skill development, and renovation of courses that are in line with the industrial and technological advancements so that the graduates are more employable and career-ready.

By these measures, Bangalore University is determined not only to occupy the empty seats but also to enhance the quality & attractiveness of its degree programmes thus creating a more competitive and student-friendly higher education environment.
