Writers from around the world have an exciting opportunity to participate in the International Writers’ Workshop (IWW) 2027, a fully funded four-week residency program hosted by Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU). Applications are now open for the prestigious workshop, which will take place from February 26 to March 25, 2027, in Hong Kong.
Established in 2004, the International Writers’ Workshop has become one of Asia’s leading literary residency programs, welcoming more than 150 writers from over 60 countries. The program provides a platform for authors to focus on their creative work, engage with fellow writers from diverse cultural backgrounds, and participate in literary discussions and public events.
The theme for the 2027 residency is “Inheritance.” While applicants are encouraged to explore connections between their work and the theme, doing so is not mandatory. The residency will conclude with the annual IWW Literary Festival, where participants will have the opportunity to share their work and engage with readers, scholars, and fellow writers.
The workshop offers comprehensive financial support to selected participants. Benefits include round-trip airfare, accommodation throughout the residency, and a daily stipend to cover living expenses. This support enables writers to fully concentrate on their creative projects and literary exchange without financial burden.
The program is open to writers of all nationalities who currently reside outside Hong Kong. Applicants must have published at least one book and demonstrate proficiency in either English or Chinese (Mandarin or Cantonese). Participants are also expected to attend the official welcome ceremony during the first week of the residency.
To apply, candidates must submit an artist’s statement of approximately one page, a writing sample of 12 to 15 pages, a curriculum vitae or résumé, and contact information for referees. All application materials should be combined into a single PDF document and submitted via email to the organizers.
The application deadline is 14 August 2026.
For writers seeking international exposure, dedicated time for creative work, and the opportunity to join a global literary community, the International Writers’ Workshop 2027 offers a unique and enriching experience in one of Asia’s most vibrant cultural hubs.
