Registration for CLAT 2027 started from August 1st. Students have started registering along with preparing for it full-time. However, they are all unaware of some crucial things that can affect their law career.

You have been preparing for CLAT for months, you took mock tests, worked on your reading speed, memorised landmark judgments and practised legal reasoning but what if you miss out on it not because of your performance but because of a mistake in the application form? This usually happens..

A few students upload the incorrect documents. Some make spelling mistakes in their personal details. Others believe that the payment was made without verifying their application status. Many of these are preventable but if the registration window has closed, it may not always be possible to correct them.

For those who are filling the CLAT 2027 application form, here are some things you need to keep in mind before hitting the Submit button.

Not keeping documents ready in advance

Before starting your CLAT registration, keep all necessary documents ready. These usually include:

  • Passport-size photograph
  • Signature
  • Class 10 certificate
  • Class 12 details (if applicable)
  • Valid ID proof
  • Category certificate (if applicable)

Preparing everything beforehand makes the registration process much smoother.

Incomplete registration

Registration is one of the easiest aspects of the admissions process for students. Ironically, it's the only stage where a small mistake can mean that you don't even show up for the exam. Unlike preparation, registration isn't about intelligence. It's a matter of caution.

Delaying registration

The last few days of the CLAT registration 2027 period are very busy on the official portal every year. Students rush to upload documents, payments sometimes fail, internet connections become unreliable, and panic takes over.

Entering Incorrect Personal Details

Students generally stress on tough legal aptitude questions. Not many people care if their own name is on their Class 10 certificate. Information provided during registration should be identical to your official records including name, date of birth, category and educational information. It is advised to double-check the details before submitting.

The Photograph Matters More Than You Think

A surprising number of applicants don't read the document specifications carefully. Applying with an old photo, unclear signature or files with a size that is not specified may slow or complicate the application process. Read the official instructions carefully before uploading anything, don't assume that all entrance exams are the same.

Don't assume that payment is the last step.

A lot of candidates will exit the browser right after paying. The application must be successfully submitted and the confirmation page generated for it to be considered registered.

Always download and save:

  • Application number
  • Payment receipt
  • Confirmation page

These documents could be relevant during the admission process.

One Form Doesn't End the Journey

Once registered the next step is the admit card, Examination, Answer key, Result and Counselling. Students who fail to continue to follow official updates after submitting the application may miss important updates. Make it a routine to follow official notifications rather than relying on social media posts or forwarded messages.

Is CLAT the only Law Entrance Exam?

No. CLAT is still one of the most accepted law entrance exams in India particularly for National Law Universities and a few other law schools. But it is not the only means of admission.

A large number of private universities have their own entrance exams or accept various admission tests, like AICLET, for integrated law programmes. If you are not confident about CLAT, it is a good idea to have more than one admission option, rather than depending on a single exam.
