Jagran Lakecity University Launches Nomadic Living Lab to Preserve Indigenous Knowledge Through Design 

Jagran Lakecity University has introduced the Nomadic Living Lab, a collaborative platform for the preservation and promotion of indigenous knowledge systems through research, documentation, design and community engagement. The initiative brings together communities, students, practitioners and collaborators to promote reciprocal learning and explore how design can contribute to meaningful social impact.

The platform is designed to be a place for learning with communities, not just learning about communities, the university said. The method aims to centre the community's knowledge and experiences in the research and creative exploration.

The launch was attended by the University leadership, representatives from Bhasha Research and Publication Centre and Muskaan, community representatives and other collaborators.

The launch event featured the presentation of the Nomadic Living Lab and comments from collaborators in the project. It also included an exhibit of a year-long process of student-community partnerships. The exhibition showcased common knowledge, research and creative production produced in the process of engaging with communities.

Jagran Lakecity University's vision is to establish a space for indigenous knowledge systems to be documented, explored and passed on through modern design practices, the Nomadic Living Lab.

The initiative also reflects the increasing importance of universities in bridging the gap between academic knowledge and community knowledge, providing students with opportunities to experience first-hand the social context and lived experiences.

The university stated that the Nomadic Living Lab will engage students, practitioners and communities in a common learning space, with the aim of making a positive social impact through design and helping to preserve and promote indigenous knowledge.
