The Ministry of Women and Child Development (MWCD) has invited applications for its Internship Programme for the August-September 2026 session, offering women an opportunity to gain practical exposure to public policy, governance, and programmes related to the welfare and empowerment of women and children.
Interested candidates can apply through the official internship portal. The initiative is designed to provide first-hand experience of how government policies are formulated, implemented, and evaluated, while encouraging greater participation of women in public policy and social development sectors.
The programme is open to women students, scholars, teachers, and social activists, particularly those from rural areas and non-tier-1 cities. According to the ministry, applicants must be between 21 and 40 years of age and should be enrolled in or associated with a recognised university or academic institution. Candidates who have previously participated in the internship programme are not eligible to apply again.
The internship will run for a period of two months. During this time, selected participants will be attached to various divisions within the ministry, where they will gain insights into the functioning of government programmes and policy initiatives.
Interns will have the opportunity to contribute to research and policy-related activities, including the preparation of policy briefs, data analysis, and studies on issues affecting women and children. Participants may also undertake pilot projects or micro-studies linked to ongoing initiatives of the ministry.
A key feature of the programme is the exposure it provides to the policymaking process. Interns will interact with officials from the Ministry of Women and Child Development, as well as representatives from allied ministries, government agencies, and organizations working in the field of social development. These interactions are expected to enhance participants' understanding of governance and public administration at the national level.
The ministry conducts the internship programme several times each year through different sessions, including May, June, August-September, November-December, and February-March cycles. The August-September 2026 session is currently accepting applications.
The internship is particularly valuable for women interested in careers in public policy, research, social work, development studies, education, and women's empowerment. By offering direct exposure to government initiatives and administrative processes, the programme aims to nurture future leaders and advocates working towards the welfare and development of women and children across India.
