The Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education (HPBOSE) has released a press statement revealing that the Class 10 and Class 12 board examinations will undergo several changes starting 2026. The main emphasis of the package of changes is to revamp the examination method in such a way that it becomes more transparent, student friendly and aligned with the national educational priorities.

The board has made public the fact that the Class 10 and Class 12 yearly examinations will commence on March 3, 2026. The schedule for the exams has been very well planned with the main aim of giving students enough time to prepare for the paper after the next one. Besides, with the introduction of strict security and surveillance measures, the examinations will be conducted in multiple centres across the state to ensure that the examinations are carried out smoothly and fairly.

Among the many changes that have been proposed, one stands out as a major amendment, i.e., the introduction of a single question paper format. From 2026, all the students will be given the same question paper thus doing away with the system of set A, B, and C which the papers have been divided into previously. A spokesperson of the Board explained that this step would eliminate the confusion and ensure standardization of marking across centres.

In one more major reform, the HPBOSE has taken a decision to include multiple, choice questions (MCQs) in all major subjects. There will be 20 MCQs in each paper, which is a step in line with the National Education Policy (NEP). Adding MCQs will test the students' conceptual understanding, reading comprehension skills, and will prepare the students for national, level competitive exams.

The board has also emphasized accelerating the answer script evaluation process. Himachal Pradesh Board of Secondary Education (HPBOSE) through efficient assessment methods, is planning to announce the result even earlier than the previous time. Hence, the students of Himachal Pradesh will get the results of their Class 10 and Class 12 board exams on April 30, 2026. Thus, students can plan their college admissions and entrance tests without any worry of delay.

Board officials mentioned that these changes have been formulated with the student at the center, stressing on fairness, less stress, and good learning outcomes. By the new examination system, students are going to be more confident and at the same time, the board will make sure that the students are well, prepared for higher education and future career challenges.
