The Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) is set to revive its annual Education Awards programme, with this year's edition carrying added significance as Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay will, for the first time since assuming office, personally felicitate top-performing students in the Tamil Nadu Class 10 and Class 12 State Board examinations.

The award ceremony is expected to be held in Chennai during the last week of July or the first week of August, although the final date is yet to be officially announced. According to party leaders, preparations are in the final stages, with district units already coordinating the identification of eligible students.

Students from Across Tamil Nadu to Be Honoured

TVK leaders said district-level organisers have been instructed to compile the list of students who secured top ranks in their respective districts. Party workers are also contacting the selected students and their families to coordinate travel and accommodation for the event.

Parents of the awardees will also be invited, making the ceremony a celebration of academic excellence and family support. Like previous editions, the function is expected to be held at a private venue in Mahabalipuram, with students from across Tamil Nadu participating in a single, state-level event instead of separate regional ceremonies.

First Education Awards After Vijay Became Chief Minister

This year's programme marks a milestone as it will be the first Education Awards ceremony since Vijay became Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. While he had previously presented the awards as the founder of the initiative, he will now honour students in his capacity as the state's elected leader.

However, TVK has clarified that the programme is not a government function. Party leaders said the awards will continue to be organised independently by the party, maintaining the initiative's original identity despite Vijay's new constitutional role.

Initiative Began Before Electoral Politics

The TVK Education Awards were launched in 2023, before the party formally entered electoral politics, with the objective of recognising outstanding academic achievement among students from both government and private schools.

Under the initiative, Vijay honoured the top three Class 10 and Class 12 scorers from every Assembly constituency in Tamil Nadu. Over the years, the programme has grown into one of the party's largest public outreach initiatives, drawing thousands of students and parents from across the state.

Speculation Over Continuation Ends

Following TVK's victory in the Assembly elections and Vijay's elevation as Chief Minister, speculation emerged on social media over whether the Education Awards would continue. The absence of an early announcement fuelled rumours that the programme had been discontinued.

Party leaders, however, maintained that the delay was due to the completion of the State Board examination process and subsequent logistical planning. With preparations now nearing completion, TVK has reaffirmed its commitment to continuing the annual awards programme.

According to party sources, gold medals, certificates and other honours will continue to be presented under the TVK banner, reinforcing the initiative's focus on encouraging academic excellence while preserving its identity as an independent educational recognition programme.
