Graphic Era Hill University (GEHU), Dehradun Campus, has organised the internal hackathon round of the Smart India Hackathon (SIH) 2026, giving student teams an opportunity to present ideas addressing challenges across different domains.
The internal round was conducted as part of the nationwide Smart India Hackathon initiative. The Government of India describes SIH as a platform aimed at encouraging students to work on real-world problems and develop a culture of innovation and problem-solving.
According to GEHU's announcement, 200 teams participated in the internal hackathon. Students presented ideas across areas including cybersecurity, smart education and disaster management, among other domains. The university said the teams presented their ideas during the internal screening round as part of the SIH 2026 process.
The internal hackathon is an important stage in the institutional participation process for Smart India Hackathon. The Ministry of Education's Innovation Cell has stated that participating institutions are required to conduct internal hackathons and idea screening before student teams proceed through the subsequent stages of the SIH process.
The event at GEHU was coordinated by Sushant Chamoli, the university's Single Point of Contact (SPOC) for SIH 2026, according to the university's announcement.
The internal hackathon reflects the broader structure of SIH, under which students work on problem statements and develop technology-based solutions. The national initiative is intended to provide students with a platform to address problems encountered in everyday life while encouraging innovation and problem-solving.
The university's Department of Computer Science has also issued notices related to its internal SIH 2026 process, including instructions for participating teams and subsequent updates to the internal hackathon schedule.
With 200 teams taking part, the GEHU internal round brought together students working on problems spanning technology, education and disaster management. The ideas presented at the institutional level will form part of the university's participation in the wider Smart India Hackathon 2026 process.
