The Hon'ble Governor of the State of Himachal Pradesh, Shri Kavinder Gupta has accepted the invitation to join the Tree Plantation Drive at the campus of Shimla University (APG) on 3 August 2026 under the banner of 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam'.
The invitation came at a courtesy meeting between the management team of the university and the Governor at Lok Bhawan, Shimla, on Friday.
The 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' initiative is designed to inspire people to take action for the environment by encouraging tree plantation as a tribute to mothers and raising awareness about sustainability among students, faculty members and the community. The drive is part of the university's efforts to become a "green campus" and promote environmentally friendly behavior.
The university management also discussed the steps taken to make the campuses drug-free in the state of Himachal Pradesh. The discussions centered on joint actions to prevent students from substance abuse and ensure a safe, healthy and disciplined school atmosphere in educational institutions.
The meeting underscored Shimla University's ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability and student welfare and social responsibility, including those that support the nation-building and community development processes.
The University authorities have expressed their hope that the Governor's involvement in the upcoming tree plantation drive will further motivate the students and the public to take an active role in the conservation of the environment and strengthen the message of collective responsibility for a green environment.
