Shimla University Organises ‘Har Ped Himachal Ka Abhiman – Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ Plantation Drive; Governor Kavinder Gupta Calls for Green and Drug-Free India

Reinforcing its commitment to environmental sustainability and social responsibility, Shimla University (APG) successfully organised the "Har Ped Himachal Ka Abhiman – Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam" Plantation Drive along with a Poster Making Competition on environmental conservation. The event was inaugurated by the Hon'ble Governor of Himachal Pradesh, Shri Kavinder Gupta, who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.

The plantation drive brought together students, faculty members and distinguished guests in a collective effort to promote environmental awareness and encourage sustainable living. The initiative reflected the University's vision of inspiring young minds to actively participate in building a greener and more responsible future.

Addressing the gathering, Hon'ble Governor Shri Kavinder Gupta urged students to make environmental conservation a people's movement by planting trees and, more importantly, nurturing them. He emphasised that every tree planted today becomes a lasting legacy for future generations and highlighted the important role educational institutions play in developing environmentally conscious and socially responsible citizens.

The Governor also encouraged students to adopt sustainable lifestyles, take responsibility for protecting nature and become ambassadors of both environmental conservation and a drug-free India. His address underscored the importance of youth participation in nation-building through responsible citizenship and community-driven initiatives.

Speaking on the occasion, university officials reiterated that environmental awareness extends beyond plantation drives and involves creating long-term behavioural change through education, participation and community engagement. The event served as an opportunity for students to understand their role in protecting natural resources while contributing positively to society.

Adding vibrancy to the celebration, students of Shimla University presented a series of cultural performances highlighting themes of nature, sustainability and social responsibility. The performances complemented the plantation drive by creatively conveying the importance of preserving the environment for future generations.

The Poster Making Competition witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, who expressed their ideas on environmental protection, climate awareness and sustainable development through creative artwork. The activity encouraged students to reflect on ecological challenges while promoting awareness through visual storytelling.
