The Mathura Police have taken a strong stance on people who are spoiling the image of the "Lathmar" and "Laddumar" Holi celebrations of Barsana and Nandgaon, which are world famous. Barsana police station has registered a case against nine social media influencers who allegedly defamed the 5, 000, year old cultural tradition by circulating misleading and edited video clips on social media.
The police got information that some influencers had edited the old Holi videos and shared them in a way that was objectionable on social media. Further inquiries showed that these misleading videos were causing the spread of rumours and the disruption of communal harmony in the area. The police state that these posts heightened the fear of women and the tension in society.
Prominent handles and users against whom the police have taken action include: iMayankofficial (@imayankindian), Piyush Rai (@Benarasiyaa), Vishal JyotiDev Agarwal (@JyotiDevSpeaks), Extra2ab (@UdayRoy443477), Mamta Rajgarh, Kavish Aziz, Prayagraj.vibes, r_nagar_vlogs, and Kotafoodexplorerr.
The Barsana Police arrested all of them and registered FIR No. 65/2026 against all of them under sections 196(2) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) (promoting enmity between different groups), 353(2) of the IPC (public mischief), and sections 67/67A of the IT Act.
The Mathura Police have warned that those who violate religious and cultural traditions will definitely be held accountable. At present, the case investigation is being conducted, and the offenders will be legally prosecuted shortly.
