Shimla University (APG) Organises Industry Intervention Session for Management and Commerce Students

Shimla University (APG), in collaboration with NextGen, successfully conducted an Industry Intervention Session for students of Management and Commerce. The session, delivered by Ms. Poonam Thakur, Assistant Commissioner State Taxes & Excise-cum-Enforcement and Nodal Officer, District Shimla, was held on 13th May from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM and focused on practical industry knowledge connected with taxation, business operations, and entrepreneurship.

Session Highlights

According to the university, the session covered a few important topics tied to business taxation and entrepreneurship, sort of like really practical stuff. During the programme they went through key areas around GST and business taxation concepts such as payment of tax, interest and penalties, delayed tax payments, and also TDS and TCS. They also touched on advance tax, self-assessment, and provisional assessment, in a way that was easy to follow, even if some parts felt a bit fast at first.

The session also addressed entrepreneurship and small industry management, including talk about working capital management, inventory management, production management and operations management. Overall it felt like they tried to connect the rules with daily decision making, and not just some bookish case study. 

This insightful collaborative session by Shimla University and NextGen aimed to help students understand how taxation systems and operational decision-making function in real business environments.

Industry Exposure for Management and Commerce Students

In 2026, with increasing emphasis on industry-oriented education, universities are increasingly organising expert-led academic sessions to bridge the gap between classroom learning and professional practice. The Industry Intervention Session at Shimla University (APG) provided students with exactly that: exposure to practical aspects of taxation compliance, financial processes, and entrepreneurship-related challenges faced by businesses and small industries.

As per the university post, the session proved informative and kinda beneficial for the students, by giving practical insight into taxation systems, business operations, and entrepreneurial management concepts.
