The School of Legal Studies and Research, APG Shimla University, in collaboration with the State Vigilance Bureau recently conducted an awareness camp in the Biolia Panchayat to enlighten people about the dangers of corruption.

The initiative aimed at providing an answer to the question: How being corrupt is harmful to society and how to encourage transparency, honesty, and accountability as the main principles of the life of the society and governmental service. The participants were made aware of the bad side of corrupt practices and pledged to hold high ethical standards in their work and lives.

The camp reflects that APG Shimla University takes its social responsibility seriously and has engaged in educating students on legal education, but it also participates in giving back to society and the community in general through this segment.

This program strengthens efforts to build a corruption-free society by empowering citizens with knowledge and encouraging collective action for fairness and integrity.

The community members, students, and the faculty came together to make the awareness camp a meaningful event  that led to positive change in Biolia and beyond.

Education for women is a top priority in the state's development plans, according to Andhra Pradesh Minister Kondapalli Srinivas. The government has been trying to reduce the differences in access, facilities, and opportunities for female students in the rural and semi-urban areas of Andhra Pradesh.

Srinivas was addressing during the Saturday opening of several development projects in this area, including as the ₹43 lakh modern science lab and the ₹1.92 crore new hostel building at KGBV.

In order to increase academic performance for girls attending KGBVs—residential schools designed to educate the poor and disenfranchised female children—the new infrastructure is therefore expected to not only provide safe residences for the kids but also enhance classroom instruction.

Additionally, Srinivas reaffirmed the government's commitment to basic utilities by launching drinking water delivery projects in the Bondapalli and Gajapathinagaram mandals.

Under the Jal Jeevan Mission, he said household tap connections were now provided to each household in the region, with an investment of ₹125.4 crore that improved the quality of life of every family and student.

He termed the KGBVs a boon for girl students. Many of the students passing out from these institutes are doing well in academics and some bring international recognition, he added.

He emphasized that education is the first step towards women's empowerment and urged all female students to take advantage of the government's possibilities. According to Srinivas, unpaid invoices to the contractors caused a delay in the 2019 completion of the KGBV school building's inauguration.

“After our government took charge, we resolved the issues, cleared the bills and ensured that remaining works were completed,” he said.

He saw to it that Andhra Pradesh stood by the long-term vision of the government so that future generations of women would be confident, educated, and empowered contributors through the strengthening of girls' education

One of the Gujarat government's primary schools has introduced a new innovative initiative called the 'Year of Questions' to encourage students to be critical minds. The move, initiated at the Shri Chandap English Primary School in the Sabarkantha district, is a continuation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 that places the highest priority on enhancing analytical skills in education.

Developing Inquiry

Earlier this year, the 'Year of Questions' initiative sought to get kids curious and have them ask questions on their own. The initiative encourages children to think first before responding and don't merely respond to questions posed by teachers. Assistant teacher Kamlesh Kumar Patel said, "No question is too small or too big. It is a remarkable achievement for us that no child in our school feels apprehensive about asking questions anymore."

They can also pose their questions orally or anonymously through a question box, promoting open interaction between teachers and students. Patel noted that through this approach, students' confidence and participation have risen significantly in class.

Positive Outcomes for Students

The project has brought about remarkable improvements in students' speaking abilities and confidence. Dharmik Nareshbhai, a school student, stated, "It's very useful when we become older, and this project is wonderful." His fellow student, Laksh Maheshwari, was thrilled on making questions and stated, "When I ask questions, I am encouraged to progress."

Parents have also observed positive changes in their wards, including enhanced logical thinking and an open mindset to discuss matters at home. Rajesh Kumar Maheshwari, a parent, explained, "Teachers respond to the questions raised by children, which satisfies them."

Building a New Culture of Learning

With this educational program, kids are growing more curious and critical thinkers. Not only is the program building up critical thinking skills, but it is encouraging students to conduct research and group discussion. As such, the 'Year of Questions' is providing a platform for a revolutionary education experience in the Gujarat government schools, playing a big role in helping the students develop all around.

Lucknow University, having attained a NAAC A++ grade, sports a vibrant facade, but its internal image tells a 'tale of dues'. As construction work took precedence for the past two years, several teachers are still awaiting their dues for invigilation work, question paper setting/evaluation and examiners duty in practicals/viva for a minimum of two to three sessions.

Lucknow University Associated Colleges Teachers' Association (Luacta) president Manoj Pandey added: "Rs.1.65 crore is pending for teachers who were involved in invigilation duty during semester examinations and ₹70 lakh of teachers engaged in evaluation is also pending. This delay could be because of fiscal constraints which the university has reportedly been facing," he said.

Dues of more than 3,000 teachers are pending for two to three sessions, stated assistant professor of Shia PG College Amit Rai.

"Under scrutiny, university teachers, with the help of and private colleges are engaged in several activities such as invigilation, assessment, question paper preparation and others. The delays have led to teachers disinterested in assuming duties, which can affect the academic performance of students, particularly when experienced teachers are not very keen to prepare question papers," he added.

"While other universities are paying dues within a week of examination process completion, why is there a delay at LU? Though grants were never high, the fund to pay the dues is used towards other expenses, sometimes," said Rai.

Prof Vikram Singh, Botany professor at Jai Narain PG College, said because of tardiness in the process many teachers have ceased providing inputs to the examination process.

Pradeep Sharma, a teacher at Shia PG College, also opined that although some teachers, with a certain attitude, receive payment in time, others are required to go from pillar to post.

"Some of the teachers are finding it difficult to pay their bills. Even if the bills are passed from one department, they get another for months," he said.

When questioned regarding the issue, university spokesperson Prof Mukul Srivastava stated: "The university is taking cognisance of the matter and a solution will be provided shortly."
