NIFT Admission Process

Admission is based on an entrance examination that evaluates creativity, design aptitude, analytical thinking, and communication skills.

Creative Ability Test (CAT)

The CAT measures a student's creativity, imagination, visual communication, innovation, observation skills, and ability to solve design problems through sketching and conceptual thinking.

General Ability Test (GAT)

The GAT assesses academic and analytical abilities through sections on:

  • English Comprehension
  • Quantitative Ability
  • Communication Ability
  • Analytical Ability
  • General Knowledge and Current Affairs

Candidates applying for B.Des and M.Des appear for both CAT and GAT, while applicants for B.FTech, M.FTech, and MFM are required to take the GAT as per the applicable admission process.

Situation Test

Candidates shortlisted for the B.Des programme participate in the Situation Test, a practical assessment that evaluates creativity, material handling, three-dimensional model-making, visualization, and innovative thinking using the materials provided during the examination.
