Shimla University (APG), in association with All India Forensic Science Entrance Test (AIFSET), successfully conducted the Forensic Science Immersive Experience Programme, providing hands-on exposure to the world of Forensic Investigation and Crime Scene Analysis to the students.
The two day immersive programme was designed to bring together aspiring forensic science students from across the regions, to provide them with an experience of forensic science outside of the classroom. The project aimed to educate the participants on the practical aspects of forensic science, using live demonstrations, lab exposure, and interactive learning sessions.
The programme also involved a Crime Scene Investigation Simulation held on campus where students watched the evidence collection process, investigation techniques and the role of forensic experts in the examination of a crime scene. The participants also visited the Forensic Science laboratory of the University where they got an insight into the examination of evidence in the context of criminal investigation.
A report writing session was also conducted to introduce students to the process of writing reports and analytical observation techniques employed in investigations. The event also featured a summarisation and academic orientation session, where presentations were made on the education of forensic science, career paths, and future prospects in the field.
The visit to the State Forensic Laboratory, Shimla, was one of the highlights of the programme, where the students got a glimpse of the professional forensic work environment and the laboratory systems employed in scientific investigations.
The programme aimed to educate students about the interdisciplinary nature of forensic science, which integrates biology, chemistry, criminal investigation, digital forensics, and analytical thinking into contemporary justice systems, the organisers said.
The immersive experience also highlighted the increasing interest among students in pursuing careers in forensic science in India, including cyber forensics, crime investigation, forensic biology, toxicology, and digital evidence analysis.
APG Shimla University said these experiential learning programs are designed to connect the dots between theory and industry, enabling students to make informed choices about forensic science education and career paths.
The partnership with AIFET also underscored the growing trend of specialized forensic science education streams and structured admission processes for students in India.
The programme ended with active participation of students, interactive discussion and practical engagement sessions on scientific investigation methodologies and forensic career awareness.
