GNA University's School of Engineering, Design & Automation successfully organised Survey Camp 2026 for students of the 5th Semester Diploma in Civil Technology at Dalhousie, Chamba (Himachal Pradesh). The five-day field programme gave hands-on experience with surveying skills and topographical mapping.

The camp aimed to equip students with the ability to apply the classroom knowledge to actual engineering scenarios and enhance technical and field survey skills.

Students Gained Practical Experience in Surveying Techniques

While at the camp, students conducted a series of field based surveying activities utilizing professional surveying instruments.

On Day 1, the Auto Level was used for levelling, establishing benchmarks and to calculate Reduced Levels (RLs).

Day 2 involved Plane Table Surveying, mapping the survey area to a scale in the field, observing and creating scaled maps.

Theodolite Survey and Topographic Mapping Conducted

Day 3: Traverse Surveying, students used the Theodolite to measure bearings and angles to get accurate field observations.

Day 4: It was dedicated to a hands-on learning experience in the natural terrain and contour variations at Khajjiar and Kalatop that highlighted its practical value and importance of topographical surveys.

Day 5: students used their field observations to create a Topographic Map of the Dalhousie area, which included contour lines and elevation information.

Survey camp for experiential learning

GNA University stated that the one-to-one experience boosted the technical knowledge of the students, aided in enhancing their teamwork and problem-solving skills, and also gave them a hands-on learning experience in civil engineering survey techniques.

The camp was a part of the university's efforts to give students hands-on experience in engineering by putting them into practice using concepts learned in the class, the university said.

GLS University has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with CAIT Young Entrepreneurs (CAIT YE) to promote entrepreneurship among students through innovation, mentorship, networking and real-world opportunities.

Kerala University has called for an inquiry after a question paper for the  second-semester BSc Statistics examination allegedly contained the answer to one of the questions. The mistake was discovered during Monday's exam when students realised that Question 5 was followed by what seemed like the answer, leading the university to ask for an explanation.

The problem was identified after the candidates reported that in the question paper, there was a "complimentary" answer along with one of the questions, according to the university officials. The error was said to have impacted the second-semester BSc Statistics exam of Kerala University.

The Kerala University has ordered a probe into the issue

After the incident, Kerala University had ordered an inquiry to know how the mistake was committed. The university has asked the people who prepared and printed the test paper for an explanation. The investigation will seek to establish if the lapse was due to a printing error, editing oversight or some other procedural error.

Students express concerns about the examination process

The strange mistake has led to a discussion among students who are wondering how the answer came into an official university examination paper. The university has not yet revealed whether it will impact the evaluation process or if any corrective measures will be implemented for the exam.

Investigation Underway

The inquiry will review the situation that led to the error and determine if there were any failures in the paper setting and printing. Further action is expected to be taken by Kerala University based on the investigation results and existing examination procedures are reviewed in the light of the same to prevent such incidents in the future examinations.
